Palomino, La Guajira
Up in northeastern Colombia on the Caribbean is Palomino. It has a super long, sandy beach that is great for beginner surfers. Whether you’re just catching whitewater or progressing onto green waves, there are plenty of empty beginner waves here. It definitely works best in the rainy season, and there are plenty of breaks in the area to check out as you progress.
Cartagena, Bolivar
Sitting on the beautiful Caribbean coast of Colombia, Cartagena is a vibrant city popular among international tourists. There are multiple waves in the area, but the most notable is probably the Cartagena Jetty. It’s one of the more consistent waves in the city, and is often in the 2-4 foot range. It’s a great place to learn to surf, with plenty of surf schools and rentals in the area. It stays pretty uncrowded during the week, and has a super sandy bottom!
Nuquí, Chocó
Down on the Caribbean side of Colombia at Utria National Park, Nuquí is home to a bunch of different waves. Many are more suited for intermediate or advanced surfers, but there are lots of opportunities for beginner surfers. There are even surf camps for beginners in the area. In addition to the surf, Nuquí is absolutely stunning. The remote location will give you the opportunity to surf uncrowded waves in the most beautiful tropical jungle atmosphere.
