It’s a great way to share in the joys of surfing, get plenty of time together, and have a vacation with tons of logistics handled for us. So, we’ve put together this list of a few of our favorite surf camps for couples!
Hide and Seek
Hide and Seek is in Popoyo, Nicaragua. It’s a high end surf camp resort literally steps from the beach and the break. You’ll find a super consistent A-frame wave so you can find some lefts and rights on offer. The inside is absolutely full of more beginner-friendly waves and has a nice sandy bottom. In addition to being one of the best surf vacations for families, they also offer surf camps for couples.
Hide and Seek has luxury poolside rooms for couples with king-sized beds, rain showers, A/C, and Wi-Fi. They offer massages at their spa, a sauna, delicious food at the restaurant, and yoga sessions. They can also coordinate tours, boat trips, cultural activities, and more. There are eleven different breaks they can take you to in the area, and all meals are included. For those looking for a luxury surf camp experience for couples, Hide and Seek is your pick!
Variant Surf Co.
In one of the most well-known beginner surf spots in Mexico, Variant Surf Co. has couples surf camps on offer in Sayulita, Mexico. Their actual camp is north of Sayulita in Punta Burros, one of the best breaks in the Punta Mita area. Operating for over 10 years in the area, Varian is a lovely and chill place to get away and surf. It’s outside the busy areas of Sayulita, with plenty to do.
Their 7 day couples surf camps include surf lessons and surf trips, a massage, plenty of surfboards, transportation, surf photography, and tons of out-of-water training. Food and drink are not included. Their home is right at the beach, and they have top-notch instructors. You can head into nearby Sayulita or San Pancho in the afternoon very easily for more things to do!
Mexico Waves
MexicoWaves, run by Joaco, is an awesome option for those looking for something off the beaten path (and with empty waves). Located in southern Mexico between Salina Cruz and Huatulco, you can get some amazing waves without fighting through a crowded lineup. It’s a quiet spot, and you generally need a local guide to surf the area. MexicoWaves is on our list of the Best Surf Camps in Mexico, and it’s definitely a great place to go as a couple!
Joaco grew up here in the area, and knows the waves as good as anyone. They offer private surf classes, surf guide services, and full-on surf camps. Joaca has explicitly told me they love working with couples most. It’s a quiet, relaxed stay with delicious local food. They have a ton of breaks in the area on offer, can work with beginner or intermediate surfers, and you’ll get a full local experience.

Sky House
In Santa Teresa, Sky House is a surf camp in a beautiful boutique adults-only property overlooking the ocean. Rooms have private terraces, an infinity pool, daily yoga classes (private!), and all the amenities you could need. They include private surf lessons, a sunset or sunrise horse riding experience, and delicious and healthy breakfasts. The town itself is one of our favorite surf towns in Costa Rica. It’s absolutely gorgeous down at the south end of the Nicoya Peninsula. It’s definitely less touristy than Tamarindo up to the north. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, mellow beaches, and travelers from all over.
The waves here are super consistent, and it’s a beautiful place to surf. The waves may tend toward beginner and beginner-intermediate, but there’s a bit of everything for everyone. The town is growing in popularity, but it’s pretty deep to get to, keeping it relatively calm. There are also plenty of breaks in the area for longboarders, more advanced surfers (Mal Pais), and beginners!
Akih Pods Hostel
Akih is an awesome surf camp in general, located in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. It’s one of our favorite surf and yoga retreats in Costa Rica, and they offer specific couples surf camps! The place itself is made up of individual pods along with a common kitchen, a social area, lounges, and a yoga deck.
Akih’s 6 Day Couple’s Explore and Surf Camp includes more than just surf. You’ll get some quality time in the water surfing with certified instructors, delicious meals and drinks, included ATV rentals, snorkeling gear, and more. They have plenty of boards on offer, and you will surely have fun exploring the surrounding area, beaches, waterfalls, and more. There’s even bioluminescent algae sometimes!
